A Chesapeake man was sentenced this week to almost three years in prison for smashing into the rear of a car while driving drunk, killing a teenager.
Steve Morris, who had pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and driving under the influence, was sentenced to 10 years on the first charge, with seven years and one month suspended. He received a year suspended for the DUI. In all, he has to serve two years and 11 months.
At 3:06 a.m. Jan. 1, Morris was traveling near the I-264 exit at St. Paul's Boulevard when the pickup truck he was driving smashed into the rear of a car in which Ernest Hunt, 14, was riding. Hunt was killed.
Hunt, who was a student at Deep Creek Middle School, had been asleep in the back seat.
