GETTING INTO COLLEGE just got easier.
The second annual Exploring College program, sponsored by Explorer Post 29 of the Tidewater Council Boy Scouts of America, will begin Sept. 18.
The yearlong program covers college entrance strategies, scholarships and study skills and is open to students in grades 8 to 12, male and female. You do not have to be a Scout to attend.
David Lindsey, post adviser, said that the program helps students ``overcome the trauma'' of going to college. Volunteers from the Norfolk Scholarship Foundation will help prepare students for college life through various activities like mock college interviews.
Students will learn interview etiquette, college essay writing and team support through study groups that meet at least once a month at the Heatherwood Drive Boy Scout office in Virginia Beach. Field trips to Virginia colleges like the University of Virginia and the College of William and Mary are also planned.
There is an $8 registration fee at the first meeting. For details, call David Lindsey at 424-6217. by CNB
