JAMES E. MORRIS

James Earl Morris, 78, of the 2100 block of Wakelon Road, died August 1, 1996, in his home.

A native of Bertie County, N.C., he was a retired farmer and a member of Mars Hill Baptist Church, Colerain. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and served in the European Theater where he was awarded the Bronze Star.

Survivors include his wife, Christine Lawrence Morris; three daughters, Mary Bethel of Fuquay Varina, N.C., Jean Matthews of Ahoskie, Laura Shock of St. Albans, W.Va.; a son, Jim Morris of Colerain; and seven grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in Mars Hill Baptist Church by the Rev. Tommy Tripp and the Rev. Donald Clinton. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Colerain. Family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Garrett Funeral Home, Ahoskie. Memorial donations may be made to Roanoke Chowan Hospice, P.O. Box 272, Ahoskie, N.C. 27910 or to the Perrytown Fire Department, 933 Pine Ridge Road, Merry Hill, N.C. 27957.
