Mr. David Curly ``Smiley'' Baker, 66, of the 700 block of Cemetery St., died July 31, 1996, in Obici Memorial Hospital.
He was a native of Nansemond County and the son of the late James G. Baker and Virgie Walker Baker. He was a member of of Canaan Baptist Church where he served as a trustee and an usher board member. He was the owner and operator of Baker's BP service station.
He is survived by his wife, Bessie Baker; a son, Quintin L. Baker of Suffolk; three daughters, Virginia Baker Kee of Portsmouth, Bessie Newsome of Suffolk, Deborah Williams of Baltimore, Md.; a goddaughter, the Rev. Connie Armstrong of Portsmouth; eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, James G. Baker II and a sister, Virginia Baker.
A funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the Canaan Baptist Church by the Rev. Jessie Arrington. Burial will follow in Carver Memorial Park Cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30 p.m. Sunday. Peebles Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
