FEW FISH, SMALL CATCHES ON NORTHERN BEACH PIERS

Pier fishing along the Northern Beaches was slow Friday.

On Kitty Hawk Pier few fish were caught during the morning.

Avalon Pier reported a few spot and flounder landed early in the day but little action during the rainy afternoon.

A few spot, sea mullet and croakers were landed sporadically throughout the day.

Anglers on Jennette's Pier caught a few small bluefish and small gray trout during the morning and a few spots over the afternoon.

On Outer Banks Pier small bottom fish and a few bluefish were landed in fair quantities during most of the morning. Action during the afternoon was a little slow with a few small croakers taken and stripers released.

South of Oregon Inlet Rodanthe Pier reported a 25-pound king mackerel landed by C.E. Midgett of Rodanthe. Spot croakers, sea mullet, small gray trout and a few flounders were also taken.

On Avon Pier a few nice sea mullet, scattered spot and croaker were landed. Plenty of cobia were seen but none were hooked.

Some nice croaker, small gray trout and flounder were caught by anglers on Frisco Pier during the morning. Afternoon fishing was slow.

Scattered small bottom fish were landed fairly regularly along the beach from Corolla to Oregon Inlet. Around Oregon Inlet some keeper flounder, small bluefish and croakers were taken.

Small bottom fish and gray trout were beached by surfcasters from Rodanthe to Buxton.

Plenty of Spanish mackerel and bluefish were landed at Cape Point. A few sea mullet and small bottom fish were also taken.

Inshore trolling around Oregon Inlet produced scattered bluefish and Spanish mackerel. Headboats in the area loaded up on croakers. Anglers drift-fishing in Davis slough caught some nice flounder and trout.

Bluewater action off Oregon Inlet was fairly slow. A few dolphin and tuna were taken. Several billfish were released including three white marlin by the Obsession and one white by the Southern Exposure. Most of the billfish action was well north of the inlet.

Charters in the Gulfstream off Hatteras landed scattered wahoo, dolphin and tuna. A few billfish were released.

The water temperature was 73 degrees Friday at the Army Corps of Engineers Pier in Duck and 77 degrees at the Frisco Pier on Hatteras Island. by CNB
