An all-day Environmental Education Workshop for area teachers will be held Aug. 20 at the Southeastern Public Service Authority's Refuse Derived Fuel Plant on Victory Boulevard in Portsmouth.
The day's activities will include a tour of the RDF plant, part of SPSA's waste-to-energy system. SPSA is a regional solid waste management system owned by eight local government units.
Featuring hands-on activities from Project WET, a national water education program, the workshop will include discussions of pollution prevention, littering and other water and solid waste management issues.
Participants will receive free curriculum guides for activities designed for pre-school, elementary and secondary students. The teaching guides offer ways to introduce environmental education in the classroom while reinforcing other lessons, such as math, language arts and science.
The free workshop is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information or to register, call 420-4700. by CNB
