BEACH ROWDINESS IS REAL

I read ``Is Beach getting too rowdy?'' (MetroNews, July 28) and was amazed at the attempt to rationalize the rude and arrogant behavior along the resort strip. We sure are quick to jump on the bandwagon to cite the ``rights'' of people. No matter how obnoxious or intolerable the behavior, we must convince ourselves that nothing can be done about it as long as the law's not broken? This is ludicrous!

The comment that the resort strip is not scary is inaccurate. My visiting relatives and my family were surrounded by a violent crowd two years ago during a holiday weekend, and I've never been back at night since. I have been to the Jersey shore and Ocean City, Md., many times, day and night, and there's absolutely no comparison.

I take real exception to the comment that the ``F'' word and the ``MF'' words are ``common currency in this generation.'' In whose family? None of the young people in my family would shout obscenities and crude comments to the opposite sex in public. I don't call this horseplay, I call it repulsive.

I think we all need to stop trying to paint a rosy picture and report the problem as it is. Once we acknowledge we have a problem, then we'll be able to deal with it.
