Winnie Franklin Hall, 98, born Feb. 13, 1898, died Sunday July 4, 1996, in the James River Convalescent Center, Newport News.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Mrs. Clemmie B. Hall. Mr. Hall was born in Gloucester County, Va., and lived for many years in Suffolk. Of late he made his home in Jacksonville, Fla., with his son and in Newport News with his daughter. He was a charter member of Nansemond River Baptist Church. He retired from Navy Operating Base, Norfolk, with 41 years civil service. He also worked at Yorktown Naval Fuel Oil Base and Craney Island.
He is survived by his children, Kenneth Hall and his wife, Lillian, Virginia Jones and her husband, Claude, Thomas Hall and his wife, Marjorie; six grandchildren, Claude Jones III, Thomas Hall, David Hall, William Hall, Randolph Hall, and Beverly Blickenstaff; three great-grandchildren, O'Brien Jones IV, David Blickenstaff and Ryan Hall; a sister, Mrs. Grace Unsworth; two brothers, Eldridge Rowe and Larry Rowe; and nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be today in Loving Funeral Home, Churchland, from 7 to 8 p.m. and the funeral will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. in Nansemond River Baptist Church with the Rev. Timothy Piland officiating. Interment will be in Olive Branch Cemetery. The family suggests that memorial contributions be sent to the building fund of Nansemond River Baptist Church.
