WILLIAM R. BRITTON

William Ross Britton, 83, of the 300 block of Florida Ave., died Aug. 5, 1996, in Norfolk.

A native of Lawrenceville, Va., he was the widower of Mary Ann Rutherford Britton. Mr. Britton was a retired manager of Hudgins Grocery Store. He was a member of Broad Street United Methodist Church, the James N. Howard Bible Class, the United Methodist Men and the Harry Fore Prayer Group. Also, he was a volunteer at Maryview Hospital.

Survivors include two daughters, Ann Golden of Portsmouth, Betty Shifferly of Suffolk; two sisters, Louise Lundy of Lawrenceville, Sue Schaut of Portsmouth; three brothers, Robert Britton of Richmond, Va., James Britton of Winter Garden, Fla., Russell Britton of Portsmouth; two grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in Broad Street United Methodist Church by the Rev. Kathryn Pigg. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at 301 Florida Ave., Portsmouth. Memorial donations may be made to Broad Street United Methodist Church, 300 Broad Street, Portsmouth, Va. 23707. Snellings Funeral Home, Churchland Chapel, is in charge.
