Regarding ``If the latest fad is being nice, then Dole is out'' (MetroNews, July 21): Staff writer Elizabeth Simpson says:
``Dole's aides say he has a quick wit and dry humor, but it comes across as mean-spirited. Hasn't anyone told him that nice is `in' right now?''
She said, ``Clinton seems nicer. That is why he is digits ahead of Dole. Even if President Clinton is caught up in all kinds of nefarious things - Whitewater, Travelgate, Filegate - he has that neighborly, hey-how-ya-doin kind of look compared with Dole's dour, don't-come-any-closer demeanor.''
I wonder: Does Ms. Simpson want an ``actor'' or a serious-minded candidate (one who cares about the people) for president?
President Clinton is the actor (Hollywood backs him with its dollars).
Dole is serious (not acting), is knowledgeable (gained from experience) - one we can depend on to be honest (whatever the case). He will stay at his desk in the Oval Office and will not always be flying off somewhere (in front of a television camera)! With one arm, Dole will work circles around Clinton.
My vote goes to Bob Dole. Ms. Simpson better think about it.
