Charles M. Hill, 77, died Aug. 6, 1996, in a Chesapeake hospital.
He retired as a chief quarter master in the U.S. Navy after 30 years of service. He also retired from the Merchant Marine. Born in Hastings, Neb., he was a veteran of World War II serving in the Asiatic-Pacific theatre. He received the Purple Heart in Bouganville, Solomon Islands aboard the USS McKean (APD-5).
Survivors include three sons, Steven C. Ballou of Alexandria, Va., John C. Ballou and Charles M. Ballou, both of Virginia Beach; a sister, Sandy Ryan of Murray, Utah; and three grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel, is in charge. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters.
