Herbert H. Hicks

CHESAPEAKE - Herbert Hoy Hicks, 81, of the 1000 block of Hillwell Road, died Tuesday Aug. 6, 1996, in a Chesapeake hospital.

Mr. Hicks was born in Old Norfolk County and was the son of the late Charles Andrew and Bessie Atlas Heldreth Hicks. He was a retired Trim Department supervisor with 34 years of service with the Ford Motor Co., Norfolk Assembly Plant. He was also a retired farmer. Mr. Hicks was a member of Great Bridge Congregational Church.

Survivors include his wife, Eleanor Matthews Hicks; three daughters, Shirley Castellow of Chesapeake, Phyllis Jenkins of Greenwood, S.C., Sandra Higgerson of Chesapeake; a son, Stanley Hicks of Chesapeake; three sisters, Helen Edwards of Chesapeake, Essie Giffin of Mansfield, Ohio, and Leta Carothers of Doyleston, Pa.; 15 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Mr. Hicks was predeceased by three sisters, Violet Edwards, Vivian Culpeper and Effa Tindall; two brothers, Foster Hicks and Forrest Hicks.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in the chapel of Oman Funeral Home, Great Bridge, by Dr. Roscoe Musselwhite. Interment will be in Rosewood Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions may be made to the E.M.S. program for Chesapeake of the local chapter of the American Heart Association, 360 Southport Circle, Suite 104, Virginia Beach, Va. 23452.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. today.
