William Ennis Tayloe, 75, of Route 1, died Thursday, Aug. 8, 1996, in McGuire VA Medical Center, Richmond.
Born April 28, 1921, in Bertie County, Mr. Tayloe was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Arthur Tayloe of Aulander. He was a member of Aulander Baptist Church and a retired merchant and farmer. A graduate of Oak Ridge Academy and the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, Mr. Tayloe was a first lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force. He was a prisoner of war in Germany during World War II, and a recipient of both the Air Medal and the Purple Heart. He was a charter member of the Ahoskie Gallery Theatre, Inc. and the Aulander Rescue Squad, and was an active volunteer with the American Red Cross.
He is survived by his brother, Arthur Woodrow Tayloe of Aulander; nieces and nephews, Mary Jane Tayloe, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Woodrow Tayloe Jr. and Mr. and Mrs. Dwight A. Kirkland; great-niece and nephews, William Scott Kirkland, Stephen Ennis Kirkland, William Arthur Tayloe II, and Courtney Lyn Tayloe.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Garrett Funeral Home, Ahoskie, by Chaplin Robert T. Gustavson. Burial will follow in the Aulander Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the home of Arthur Woodrow Tayloe, 307 S. Commerce St., Aulander. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to NHCU Residents, (NU)1064 or General Post Fund (NU)1047 Recreational Service, McGuire VA Medical Center, 1201 Broad Rock Blvd., Richmond, Va. 23249.
