James H. Reavis, 76, of 40 Hobson St., died Aug. 7, 1996, in the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Hampton.
Mr. Reavis, a native of Brunswick County, Va., was retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard after 40 years as a sheet metal worker. He was a member of St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church, Portsmouth, and the male chorus and joint choir. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and a member of Brighton Rock Lodge (NU)133, Order of Masons. Also he was chaplain of the Old Truxtun League.
Survivors include his wife, Celeste E. Reavis; a daughter, Carolyn R. Porter of Portsmouth; a son, James M. Reavis of Portsmouth; a sister, Louise R. Minor of Brooklyn, N.Y.; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends.
The funeral will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. by the Rev. Curtis E. Edmonds in St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church, Portsmouth. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Gardens, Chesapeake, with military and masonic honors. Viewing at Corprew Funeral Home will begin at 10 a.m. today. The body will be taken to the church at noon Saturday.
