Deaconess Carolyn Jasper Daughtry, of the 1300 block of Watson St., died Aug. 7, 1996.
Born in Portsmouth, she was the widow of Deacon Issac Daughtry Jr. She was a member of Mount Herman Baptist Temple. She was involved in many church organizations and held various positions and offices. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star (NU)19 and the Independent Order of J.R. Giddings and Jollifee Union of Tents.
Survivors include three daughters, Mary Brooks of Portsmouth, Dorothy Stephens of Tega Cay, S.C., and Carolyn Seagraves of Chesapeake; a son, Russell Gilliam of Portsmouth; three sons-in-law, Nathaniel Brooks of Portsmouth, Arthur Stephens of Tega Cay, and Sherwood Seagraves of Chesapeake; a daughter-in-law, Mildred C. Gilliam of Portsmouth; sister, Ethel Jasper Knight; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, in-laws, cousins, other relatives and friends.
A funeral will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Mount Hermon Baptist Temple. Burial will be in Lincoln Cemetery. Fisher Funeral Home is in charge. The family will be at 1330 Watson St. and will assemble there for a procession.
