BRETT W. LEWIS

Brett Wilton Lewis, born July 16, 1956, the creative light of our family passed away Friday, Aug. 9, 1996.

Thoughtful, sensitive and giving, Brett touched and inspired ever-widening circles of people as he walked through life. His exciting career as a New York jewelry designer was cut short by HIV. Brett was active in helping others infected with HIV through the Manhattan Center for Living. Refusing to be defeated, he heroically battled this disease for five years with the help of his sister, his mother and his partner, Chris. Never resigning to the physical ravaging of his body, Brett richly lived life to the end. Though we are all diminished by this loss, much of what is good in us came from him.

Brett is survived by his mother, Doris Harpold; his sister, Sandy Lewis; his brothers, David Lewis, Steve Lewis and Hank Lewis; his nephew, Wilton Russell Lewis, who bears his name; and many loving relatives and friends. He will be greatly missed. Our thoughts and love are with him.

Private services will be held by the family. Kellum Funeral Home, Rosewood Chapel, is handling arrangements. Brett can be remembered by making a contribution to Full Circle: AIDS Hospice Support, Inc., 110 East 24th St., Norfolk, Va. 23517.
