A 30-year-old man was in critical condition Saturday evening after being thrown from his vehicle when it rolled over several times.
A woman in another vehicle also was injured.
Police said the accident happened at 7:18 a.m. at the intersection of Virginia Beach and Aragona boulevards.
Strothleen Anderson, 43, of the 4500 block of Pinta Lane was slowing for a red light, police said, when her 1993 Ford Tempo was struck from behind.
That vehicle, a 1993 Ford Explorer driven by Larry Vaale of the 100 block of Majestic Circle, rolled 3 1/2 times after the impact.
Vaale, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the Explorer as it rolled, police said. He suffered severe head and body injuries and was taken to the Trauma Center at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition.
Anderson was listed in stable condition at Sentara Bayside Hospital.
Police said excessive speed and alcohol were contributing factors in the wreck. Charges are pending. Anderson will not be charged, police said.
