Sgt. William Wingate Tillery Jr., 74, of the 600 block of Spooner Road, died Aug. 10, 1996, in Virginia Beach.
Mr. Tillery was born in Bertie County, N.C., and was retired as a salesman from Henry Johnson Tire Co. He was a member of Kelford Baptist Church in Kelford, N.C., and was a member of the Non Commissioned Officers Association and AARP. He retired from the Army with 20 years of service, was a veteran of World War II and Korea and received a Bronze Star for his service.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and special person in the lives of many.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia B. Tillery; two daughters, Janice T. Wenger and Belinda L. Tillery; and a son, William W. Tillery III, all of Virginia Beach; a sister, Mary T. Parker of Kelford, N.C.; two brothers, Arthur F. Tillery of Largo, Fla., and James Edward Tillery of Rockbridge Baths, Va.; three grandchildren, David and Brian Wenger and Aces William Tillery, all of Virginia Beach; numerous loving nieces, nephews, friends and his faithful companion, Snowball.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Norfolk, by Pastor Randall Childress. The family will receive friends at Smith & Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel, from 7 to 9 p.m. today. Contributions may be made to your area volunteer rescue squad or the American Heart Association.
