It was with great sadness that I learned of the announced retirement of Harrison Wilson, president of Norfolk State University.
Harrison has served Norfolk State, this region and this state with great distinction, energy, courage and resourcefulness. His stewardship at Norfolk State has been exemplary. His service on many public issues has reflected the dedication of a former coach to the welfare of the young people of this region. And his friendship and kindness to his professional colleagues have been very important on many occasions.
I always feel better when I attend a meeting or a public function and see Harrison there. He inspires by his presence. He provides wise counsel. And he is not afraid to roll up his sleeves and get down to work.
I know the entire Hampton Roads community wishes Harrison, and his distinguished and able wife, Lucy, Godspeed during this transition.
