NAVY DROPS SEARCH FOR PILOT

The Navy has formally ended its search for a Florida-based F/18 Hornet pilot who disappeared Friday when his single-seat aircraft apparently crashed into the Atlantic off Puerto Rico.

Lt. Craig Munsen, 29, of Story City, Iowa, was conducting flight training operations from the Norfolk-based carrier Theodore Roosevelt when his aircraft disappeared on approach about 10 p.m. Friday.

Munsen was assigned to Fighter/Attack Squadron 105, based in Cecil Field, Fla.

Two H-60 Seahawk helicopters from the carrier, plus the cruiser Leyte Gulf, based in Mayport, Fla., conducted an immediate search. Some debris was found, but Munsen has not been located. by CNB
