A 25-year-old Suffolk man who was stranded overnight on his boat in Chuckatuck Creek was rescued Monday afternoon by the Coast Guard.
Wade Baker of the 1500 block of Cotton Farm Lane was hoisted aboard a Coast Guard helicopter about 1:30 p.m. from his 18-foot powerboat, which had gotten stuck in the mud, Coast Guard officials said Monday. The boat was stranded at the mouth of the creek, which opens into the James River near northern Suffolk.
Baker was flown to Coast Guard Integrated Support Command in Portsmouth, where he was picked up by his wife. He was reported in good condition and was at home Monday afternoon, but he declined to comment on his ordeal.
Baker, who apparently went out into Chuckatuck Creek at 11 p.m. Sunday, was reported overdue at 11 a.m. Monday, according to the Coast Guard. His boat was spotted after the Coast Guard searched for more than two hours with a boat from Portsmouth and the rescue helicopter, which is based in Elizabeth City, N.C. by CNB
