Just noted in the paper that Hank Williams Jr. is making an appearance in Hampton Roads soon and felt that I have to share this wonderful story with you and your readers.
Several years ago, Morale, Welfare and Recreation at Naval Amphibious Base, Little Creek, contracted to have Hank Williams Jr. do a concert for the troops. Before the date, along came the Persian Gulf War. MWR had paid one-half of the $66,000 contract. NAB, Little Creek, became a ghost town.
Hank's agent was contacted to explain the situation and by law MWR was obligated for $66,000. One hour later, the agent returned the call and stated that no further obligation was due and, in fact, the $33,000 paid would be refunded. The agent further said that when the troops returned, Hank would be happy to entertain them.
That was the response of a true gentleman and American.
