O'Delia Owens Newby, of the 1400 block of Atlantic Ave., died Aug. 12, 1996, in her residence.
Born in Greenville County, Va., she was a retired cook for the Norfolk Public School System. She was a member of Herald of His Coming Church of God in Christ, Norfolk, The Mother's Board and was president of Noon Day Prayer Service. Also, she was a member of Order of Eastern Star, Wheaton Chapel (NU)73.
Survivors include her husband, Elder Charlie Newby; a stepdaughter, Helena N. Goodman of Chesapeake; two stepsons, Percell O. Newby of Chesapeake, Willie N. Newby of Kansas City, Mo.; two sisters, Ella T. Winslow and Mary R. Berry, both of Norfolk; 11 grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
A funeral will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. Saturday in Herald of His Coming Church of God in Christ, Norfolk, by Elder Ronald Sewell. The body will be in church at 10 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake. Fitchett Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
