Edward Groetzinger Jr. died at home on Aug. 14, 1996, at age 83.
Mr. Groetzinger was born in Pittsburgh, Pa., on July 13, 1913, son of Edward and Margaret Scott Groetzinger. He attended the Tome School and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School where he majored in marketing and finance. He was a member of Psi Upsilon Fraternity.
After a long executive career in the food industry, he established B & G Food Brokers from which he retired. In his retirement, he was an active volunteer with and served on the board of directors of Virginia Beach General Hospital. He was a consultant with the Virginia Beach and Norfolk charters of S.C.O.R.E. and was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Virginia Beach.
Mr. Groetzinger is survived by his wife, Barbara Baird Groetzinger; two daughters, Sally G. Hall of Richmond, Suzanne Gahan of Abingdon, Md.; two sons, E. Scott Groetzinger of Lilburn, Ga. and Sanford B. Groetzinger of Gloucester, Mass.; and six grandchildren.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in the chapel of the First Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Virginia Beach Rescue Squad. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road Chapel, is handling arrangements.
