DON'T KNOCK ALASKA

How dare columnist Molly Ivins criticize the people of Alaska (Perspectives, June 29)! Not only do we speak fluent English, and accept American currency, but we are part of the United States of America!

We are literally fighting for our right to survive in our communities, and Ms. Ivins writes garbage about us.

One can't possibly understand what it's like to live in Alaska just by visiting it for three days on a cruise ship.

My family consists of me, my husband and my two children who are ages 5 and 2. How dare Ms. Ivins talk like we are destroying Alaska!

We all want to preserve our resources for future generations. Denying the contract extension for Ketchikan Pulp Co. will make Ketchikan, Alaska, a ghost town. We cannot rely on tourism to support us year round, especially if all the tourists have the mentality of Molly Ivins, which is obviously none at all!
