Wilford Ray Strutton Sr., 72, of the 400 block of Beacon Road, died Thursday Aug. 15, 1996, in his residence.
Mr. Strutton, a native of Eden, N.C., retired from the U.S. Navy and the Navy Exchange in Portsmouth. He was a member of Moose Lodge 898 and the Fleet Reserve. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Josephine P. Strutton; a daughter, Ellen Renee Tyree of Gates, N.C.; two sons, Wilford R. Strutton Jr. of Portsmouth, Paul Richard Strutton of Chesapeake; four sisters, Viola Jarrett of Kannapolis, N.C., Ruth Martin of Stella, N.C., Marie Priddy and Christine Harris, both of Eden; a brother, Jack Strutton of Eden; and three grandchildren, Mark Strutton, Staci and Corey Tyree.
A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday by the Rev. Joseph G. Savinsky in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the American Lung Association.
