Charles E. Harrell Jr., of the 500 block of Nicholson St., died Aug. 12, 1996, in a local nursing center.
Born in Elizabeth City, N.C., he was the widower of Nettie Harrell. Mr. Harrell was a retired truck driver for Galanidies Wholesale Company. He was a member of First Calvary Baptist Church, Usher Board (NU)2, Missionary Union and various other organizations of the church. Also he was a member of Elks, Berkley Lodge (NU)12, Progressive Lodge (NU)80 and Arabia Temple (NU)12, United Order 32.
Survivors include a daughter, Rosa Ellis of Norfolk; a son, Southey Harrell of Norfolk; a brother, Harry Harrell of Norfolk; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday in First Calvary Baptist Church by Dr. Johnnie White. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park. There will be a wake service at 7 p.m. today in Graves Funeral Home. Friends may join the family at 895 Fremont St.
