Jesse Roosevelt ``Jr'' Evans, 70, of 9604 Gates Road, died Aug. 15, 1996, in a Franklin hospital.
A native of Gates County, he was a member of Cool Spring Baptist Church. He was retired from Union Camp Corp. He was a former commander of the Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 56, and served in the Merchant Marines.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret Cifichiello Evans; his father, Jesse Russell Evans of Gatesville; a daughter, Rita Gray of Boykins, Va.; two sons, Anthony R. Evans of New Milford, Conn., Michael J. Evans of Windsor; two sisters, Juliet Williams of Winton, Gloria Nichols of Ahoskie; three brothers, Carter Evans of Suffolk, Clinton Evans of Murfreesboro, N.C., Ronnie Evans of Siler City, N.C.; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Cool Spring Baptist Church by the Rev. Horace Culpepper. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in Harrell Funeral Home, Gatesville.
