Thelma Spruill Allen, 87, of the 300 block of Constitution Ave., died Aug. 15, 1996, in a Portsmouth hospital.
Mrs. Allen, a native of Plymouth, N.C., was the daughter of the late Crawford S. Spruill and Loula Davenport Spruill. She was the former owner and operator of The Alteration Shop in Portsmouth for many years, and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Marian W. Doney of Emmaus, Pa.; Lucille A. Walters of Garner, N.C.; four grandchildren, Jane W. Zygmunt of Wilmington, N.C.; Jo A. Walters of Mililani, Hawaii; Kathy E. Yocum of Allentown, Pa.; Kimrey E. Allen of Richmond, Va.; seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh B. Allen and her son, H. Wayne Allen.
A graveside funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Olive Branch Cemetery by the Rev. Philip J. Parker. The family will be at her home. Foster Funeral Home, Portsmouth, is handling arrangements.
