An armed man who locked himself in his home for more than nine hours while a police SWAT team waited outside was later taken for a mental-health exam after surrendering peacefully Thursday.
Police said a domestic argument started the standoff around 1:15 a.m. During the next several hours, the man's wife, daughter and son left the home in the 5300 block of Grand Lake Crescent. At 10:30 a.m., the man surrendered.
Police spokesman Lou Thurston said the man wasn't served with an already-prepared arrest warrant because investigators thought he needed mental help.
Thurston did not release his name.
No one was hurt.
