George Dewey Privott, 94, of Hillcrest Convalescent Home, died Aug. 16, 1996, in Obici Hospital.
A native of Lexington, N.C., he was the widower of Phenie Slavin Privott. He retired from the Railway Express. He was a member of Southside Baptist Church, Suffolk, the A.A.R.P., Woodman of the World, Brotherhood of Railroad and Steamship Clerks. He was the son of the late Cornelia Bristow Privott and the late Victor V. ``Tie'' Privott.
Survivors include his sister, Cornelia P. Spivey of Suffolk; a brother, David Rawls Privott of Suffolk; a granddaughter, Sandra P. Chandler of Orlando, Fla.; four great-grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Edna P. Davis; a son, William Privott; a grandson, George Davis.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in Harrell Funeral Home, Suffolk, by the Rev. Stewart McCarter. The family will receive friends at Harrell Funeral Home following the funeral service and other times at the home of his sister, Cornelia P. Spivey, 101 Highland Ave., Suffolk. Memorial contributions may be made to the Southside Baptist Church flower fund.
