Jural Sebastian ``Jerry'' Cates, 79, of the 300 block of Elmhurst Lane, died Thursday, Aug. 15, 1996, in a Portsmouth hospital.
A native of Hopewell, Va., he was the widower of Mary Frances Cates. Mr. Cates retired from Norfolk Naval Shipyard as a pipefitter. He was a member of Pinecrest Baptist Church, America/Fellowship Masonic Lodge (NU)148 and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include two daughters, Martha Frances Connolly, Geraldine Frizer, both of Portsmouth; a sister, Nellie Snowden of Chesapeake; a brother, Howard James of Portsmouth; and three grandchildren.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday in Pinecrest Baptist Church by the Rev. Tom Potter. Burial will be in Olive Branch Cemetery with Masonic rites and Army honors. Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, is handling arrangements.
