The Virginia Port Authority board of commissioners has established the W. Wright Harrison Award for outstanding service to an agency employee, and named William C. White this years recipient. The criteria for the service award was based on the standards set by retired Vice Chairman W. Wright Harrison.
White is a national accounts manager who coordinates marketing and sales efforts for assigned national accounts - primarily steel and other non-containerized cargoes.
The port authority said White has a vast knowledge of port, rail, terminal and steamship operations, and was instrumental in securing a major paper shipper, Stora Feldmuhle, to the port this year.
White is credited with resolving rail and truck issues, and helping port and steamship personnel to work together to get products onto vessels on time. ILLUSTRATION: Photo
