In response to ``Persecuting Christians'' (letter, Aug. 14): One thing that really annoys me about conservatives in general and the Christian Coalition in particular is how they wrap themselves in the mantle of something larger than themselves and then claim that to attack their political convictions is to attack America, God, the Constitution, etc.
Speaking of us lefties, the Christian Coalition stands for hateful, mean-spirited, short-sighted political ideas. In attacking those ideas, I am not attacking God or his flock: I am attacking a political groups' interpretation of his word.
As far as constructing lion-filled arenas goes, I wouldn't fret too much. With Clinton eagerly supporting NAFTA (which hurts labor), the salvage-logging rider (which hurts the environment) and the destruction of AFDC (which hurts women and children), he's obviously not worried about the left erecting any serious barriers to his re-election.
