Bennie L. Taylor, of the 1600 block of Ekstine Drive, died Aug. 20, 1996, in Maryview Nursing Care Center, Suffolk.
Mr. Taylor, native of Portsmouth, retired from Norfolk Naval Shipyard Shop 11 as a pneumatic tool operator after 32 years of service. He also retired from Portsmouth City School System as a custodian after 4 years. He was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church, Portsmouth, and a former member of the United Usher Board of the church. He was a member of Alpha and Omega Lodge (NU)46, Order of Masons. He was a member of Cavalier Manor Neighborhood Patrols.
Survivors include his wife, Bessie Eason Taylor; a daughter, Bessie Taylor Tatem of Virginia Beach; a grandchild, Tyreese G. Hamilton of Richmond; and a great-grandchild, Josiah Hamilton III; a son-in-law, Melvin L. Tatem; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and friends; and a special cousin, Mary T. Casper.
The funeral will be conducted at noon Saturday by the Rev. Ben A. Beamer Sr. in Ebenezer Baptist Church. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Chesapeake. The viewing at Corprew Funeral Home will begin at 10 a.m. Friday. The body will be taken to the church at 10 a.m. Saturday.
