MATTHEW REID SR.

Matthew Reid Sr. of the 3300 block of Armistead Drive died Aug. 18, 1996, in Maryview Hospital, Portsmouth.

Mr. Reid, a native of Portsmouth, retired from Norfolk Naval Air Station as a aircraft mechanic after 32 years. He was a member of Third Baptist Church, Portsmouth. He was a U.S. Army veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Frances E. Reid; two daughters, Phyllis Reid Henderson of Lima, Ohio, and Pamela Reid Champ of Portsmouth; two sons, Matthew Reid Jr. of Lima, Marc E. Reid of Portsmouth; a sister, Martha Garrett of Portsmouth; four brothers, Ralph J. Reid, Leon E. Reid and Ernest E. Reid, all of Portsmouth, Walter L. Reid of Statesville, N.C.; six grandchildren; an aunt, Rebecca Reid of Suffolk; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and friends; a daughter-in-law, Darlene Davis Reid; two sons-in-law, Dr. Raynido A. Champ, M.D., and the Rev. Michael J. Henderson.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday by the Rev. Joe B. Fleming in Third Baptist Church. Burial will be in Lincoln Memorial Cemetery, Portsmouth, with military honors. Viewing at Corpew Funeral Home will begin at 10 a.m. today. The body will be taken to the church at 1 p.m. Friday.
