George N. Boothby Jr., former principal of Blair Middle School in Norfolk, has been named administrator of The Pines Residential Treatment Center in Portsmouth.
Boothby began his teaching career in the Norfolk public school system in 1974. He also was principal at W.H. Taylor and Sherwood Forest elementary schools and assistant principal at Larchmont Elementary.
He has bachelor's and master's degrees in education from Old Dominion University and currently is a doctoral candidate in educational leadership at NOVA Southeastern University.
``George has an exceptional record of community involvement and has fostered community-based and team-based management,'' said Ed Irby, chief operating officer of Alternative Behavioral Sciences, parent company of The Pines. ``He firmly believes the key to success is operating a well-structured, high-quality program.''
