VERNICE HOLMES

Vernice Holmes, of the 300 block of W. 35th St., has taken a flight home to be with the Lord. She died Aug. 20, 1996.

Born in Washington, N.C., she retired as a cook for Smith and Welton Department Store after 13 years service. She was a member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, Norfolk, Temple (NU)1 A Daughter of the Elks I.B.P.O.W. and the Annie B. Mourning Tent (NU)607, Norfolk. She was treasurer of the Willing and Worker Club and a missionary.

Survivors include her mother, Blanche Givens of Raleigh, N.C.; a sister, Lola Brown of Norfolk; a brother, Lloyd Brown of Norfolk; a nephew, Aarron Mucthison of Norfolk; and a host of other devoted relatives and friends.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday in Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, Norfolk, by Dr. L. Joseph Williams. The Tents will assemble at 6 p.m. today at Metropolitan Funeral Service, Norfolk. The Elks will assemble at 7 p.m today at the funeral home. Body will be placed in the church at 11 a.m. Saturday. Family will receive friends at noon Saturday at 301 W. 35th St., Norfolk, for funeral procession to the church and other times.
