Pier fishing along the northern beaches was slow Thursday.
Kitty Hawk Pier reported a few pompano, small croakers and Bar Jacks landed.
On Avalon Pier anglers caught a few small flounder and a couple of bluefish. A few keeper flounder, spot and pompano were landed during the morning from Nags Head Pier. Little action was reported during the afternoon.
Fishing was very slow on Jennette's because of calm conditions and very clear water.
A few pompano and sea mullet were taken from Outer Banks Pier.
South of Oregon Inlet, Rodanthe Pier reported a few Spanish mackerel, flounder and sheepshead landed.
Anglers on Avon Pier caught fair numbers of spot along with scattered bluefish, croakers, Spanish mackerel and sea mullet.
On Frisco Pier a handful of pompano, nice flounder, sea mullet and sheepshead were taken. Scattered small bottom fish were beached by surfcasters from Corolla to Oregon Inlet.
Plenty of small flounder, a few bluefish, gray trout and croakers were landed from both sides of Oregon Inlet.
Spot and croakers were fairly abundant along the beach from Rodanthe to Buxton. Some nice sea mullet were landed in the surf near Ramp 27.
Nice Spanish mackerel, some weighing over six pounds, were taken at Cape Point Wednesday evening. Scattered bottom fish, bluefish and a few Spanish mackerel were landed Thursday.
Plenty of Spanish mackerel were landed by surf-fishermen in the Hatteras Inlet area early Thursday morning. Along the beach from Frisco to False Point, some pompano and sea mullet were taken.
Inshore trolling around Oregon Inlet was excellent Thursday. Charters landed plenty of Spanish mackerel and king mackerel 1-2 miles offshore in 15 to 50 feet of water. Head-boats around the Inlet caught plenty of small croakers, pigfish, perch and gray trout.
Billfishing slowed from the fast pace of the past few days. Releases reported included five white marlin and a blue marlin by the First Crack, four white marlin by the C.J. IV and three whites by the Suspense. Fairly good catches of dolphin and a few wahoo were taken. Billfish action was centered around the Triple Zeros. Gulf Stream charters off Hatteras landed a few dolphin and wahoo and released a few billfish.
The water temperature was 78 degrees Thursday at the Army Corps of Engineers Pier in Duck and 70 degrees at the Frisco Pier. by CNB
