Margaret Louise Sermons, 92, of the 1200 block of Johnstown Road, died Aug. 24, 1996, at her residence.
Mrs. Sermons was born in Old Norfolk County and was the daughter of the late Samuel C. and Ella Stewart Harris. She was the widow of Gideon S. Sermons and was the oldest member of Great Bridge Congregational Christian Church which is now the Great Bridge Evangelical Free Church in Chesapeake. She was also a member of the Great Bridge Christian Women's Club. Mrs. Sermons retired from the cafeteria staff of Great Bridge Elementary School in 1969 after many years of service.
Survivors include her daughter, Barbara McDonald of Norfolk; her son, John S. ``Jack'' Sermons and his wife, Hazel, both of Chesapeake; her brother, Lankford O. Harris of Portsmouth; two grandchildren, Robert D. Sermons and Stanley G. Sermons, both of Chesapeake; and three great-grandchildren, Christopher Sermons, Stacy Sermons and Amanda Sermons, all of Chesapeake.
The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Great Bridge Evangelical Free Church, Chesapeake, by the Rev. Jim Hunnewell. Burial will follow in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Oman Funeral Home, Great Bridge, from 7 to 9 p.m. on Monday.
