ROBERT G. GRIFFIN

Robert Gene Griffin, 70, died Aug. 15, 1996.

Mr. Griffin was born in Gastonia, N.C., and was a long time resident of Great Bridge and Norfolk. He served as a Navy hospital corpsman attached to the USMC in World War II. He was quartermaster of the Whiteville VFW and a member of the DAV and American Legion. He was a retired dental technician as well as a noted bird carver and artist. He was an active member of the Jewish communities of Virginia Beach and Whiteville.

Survivors include his sons, Jerald Griffin and Charles Griffin of Virginia Beach, H.J. ``David'' Griffin of Whiteville and Robin Griffin of Chesapeake; brothers Harold, David, Joseph, Steven and Douglas Griffin; sisters Jewell Chatten, Beatrice Lazenby and Frances Tudor; and grandchildren Sarah and Adam Griffin.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Congregation Beth Chaverim of Virginia Beach or the Diabetes Institute. Graveside services were held at Whiteville Cemetery by Rabbi Harold Friedman on Aug. 16. Peacock Funeral Home handled arrangements.
