Pier fishing along the northern beaches was slow during the weekend.
Some small flounder and triggerfish were landed Saturday on Kitty Hawk Pier, and a few croaker were landed Sunday.
Avalon Pier reported spot, a few croaker and sea mullet taken early Saturday morning. A few Spanish mackerel and bluefish were landed from the end of the pier Sunday morning.
Anglers on Nags Head Pier caught some small bottom fish, bluefish and Spanish mackerel Saturday, and some very small flounder Sunday.
A handful of small flounder and spot were taken from Jennette's Pier Saturday.
Fishermen on Outer Banks Pier caught several pompano and sea mullet Sunday.
South of Oregon Inlet, king mackerel weighing 33 pounds and 18 pounds were landed from Rodanthe Pier Saturday. A few bottom fish also were taken. Fair numbers of Spanish mackerel were taken. Fair numbers on Spanish mackerel were taken from the end of the pier Sunday at sunrise.
Fishermen on Avon Pier caught a few small bottom fish, bluefish and an occasional pompano throughout the weekend.
Some mullet and spot were landed Saturday afternoon on Frisco Pier.
Surf fishing was good in the early mornings and late afternoons along the northern beaches. Anglers landed a mixture of small bottom fish.
Some nice flounder, small bottom fish and a few bluefish were taken around Oregon Inlet. A few nice gray trout were landed from the south side of the inlet at night.
Surf fishermen caught a few mullet, bar jacks and small blues from Rodanthe to Buxton during the weekend.
Some bluefish and Spanish mackerel were landed early Saturday morning at Cape Point. Small bottom fish were taken along the north beach during the day. Some Spanish mackerel and bottom fish were caught in the area Sunday.
Scattered pompano and sea mullet were landed along the beach from Frisco to Hatteras Inlet Saturday.
Inshore trolling and headboat action was slow around Oregon Inlet during the weekend.
Billfishing slowed somewhat Saturday, northeast of Oregon Inlet, with about 70 white marlin releases reported. Releases included 10 by the Temptress, six by the First Crack, three by the Hog Wild, three by the Candlewick Lady and two white marlin and a sailfish by the Phideaux.
Billfish action continued to decline off Oregon Inlet Sunday. White marlin releases included five by the Sea Toy, three by the First Crack and two by the Phideaux. Some dolphin, wahoo and a couple of tuna also were taken.
Dolphin, wahoo and billfish action was good off Hatteras Saturday. Charters landed limits of nice-sized bailers and good numbers of wahoo.
Billfish releases included three blue marlin by the Lucky Chip, a blue marlin and a sailfish by the Citation, three sailfish by the Nancy K., a blue marlin and a sailfish by the Marlin Mania, and a blue marlin by the Chaser.
Sailfish were released by the Harpers Folly, the Gambler and the headboat Miss Hatteras.
Blue water action off Hatteras slowed Sunday, with scattered dolphin and wahoo landed. A few billfish were released, including a blue marlin by the Chapin and a sailfish by the Citation.
Surf fishing for small bottom fish should be good along the Dare beaches this week.
The water temperature was 77.5 degrees Monday at the Army Corps of Engineers in Duck and 79 degrees at Frisco Pier on Hatteras Island. by CNB
