James Stanley Litchfield, 80, of the 1600 block of Ballahack Road, died Tuesday Aug. 27, 1996, in Bayside Hospital.
He was born July 22, 1916, in Norfolk and the son of the late David Clarence and Minnie L. Smith Litchfield. James was the loving husband of Aileen L. Beale Litchfield, who survives. Mr. Litchfield was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force where he served as a cook for 6 1/2 years. He was a member of Court House Baptist Church and served as church trustee, church deacon and church usher.
Besides his loving and caring wife, he is survived by three daughters, Linda A. Anderson of Suffolk, Jeannette M. Bennington of Rex, Ga., Barbara S. Cressmon of Virginia Beach; two sons, John D. Litchfield of Cocoa Beach, Fla., James S. Litchfield Jr. of Blacksburg, Va.; 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Mr. Litchfield was preceded in death by two brothers, David C. and Linwood Litchfield.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Colonial Baptist Church, 2221 Centerville Turnpike, Chesapeake, with the Rev. Les Smith officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in Colonial Baptist Church. Memorial donations may be made to Court House Baptist Church Building Fund, 2461 Princess Anne Road, Virginia Beach, Va. 23464. Altmeyer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
