Evelyn Mansfield Swann, of the 4800 block of Kempsville Parkway, died Aug. 22, 1996, in Sentara Leigh Memorial Hospital.
She was the widow of Alphonzo T. Swann and member of Bank Street Memorial Church, Norfolk. She was a retired educator and journalist for Norfolk Public Schools and former Women's editor for the Journal and Guide newspaper. Also she was the founder and retired member of the Swann's Club.
Survivors include a sister-in-law, Mrs. Katharyn Swann Higgs of Washington, D.C.; three nephews, Earl W. Swann of Silver Spring, Md., Clark L. Higgs of Washington, D.C., Berkeley G. Burrell of Los Angeles, Calif.; and other close relatives and dear friends.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. today in Rosewood Memorial Park, Virginia Beach, by the Rev. Michelle Johnson. The family and friends will assemble at Chatman Funeral Home, Norfolk, at 10 a.m. today for the procession to the cemetery.
