KITTY HAWK PIER ONLY BRIGHT SPOT ON SLOW DAY

Pier fishing along the northern beaches was slow Tuesday.

Kitty Hawk Pier was the only exception, where good numbers of Spanish mackerel and bluefish were landed early in the morning. Boston mackerel, pigfish and a couple of flounder were taken in the afternoon.

A few Spanish mackerel and mullet were caught on Avalon Pier during the morning. Afternoon fishing was slow.

A few small bottom fish, small flounder and bar jacks were landed from the clear, calm water throughout the morning from Nags Head Pier.

Jennette's Pier reported little action.

A few Spanish mackerel, small flounder and small croaker were landed early in the day on Outer Banks Pier. Fishing was slow during most of the afternoon.

On Hatteras Island, Rodanthe Pier reported good croaker catches Monday night. Some Spanish mackerel and spot were taken Tuesday morning.

Avon Pier reported a good run of Spanish mackerel just before dark Monday. A few mullet, spot and croaker were taken Tuesday.

Some nice Spanish mackerel were landed just after sunrise on Frisco Pier. Fishing was slow the remainder of the day.

Surfcasters caught small spot, sea mullet and croaker from deeper sloughs along the northern beaches Tuesday.

Flounder, a few gray trout, small bottom fish and small bluefish were beached in Oregon Inlet.

A few sea mullet and big pompano were caught by surf fishermen along the beach from Rodanthe to Buxton. The best mullet fishing was between Ramps 30 and 34. A few Spanish mackerel also were taken in the area.

Spanish mackerel fishing was good Monday evening at Cape Point. A few Spanish mackerel were taken Tuesday morning. Some sea mullet and pompano were landed during the day.

Sea mullet, croaker and small pompano were taken by surf fishermen from Frisco to Hatteras Inlet. Bluefish and Spanish mackerel were beached around the inlet. Some big drum were caught from boats in the inlet.

Inshore trolling around Oregon Inlet was good, with Spanish mackerel and bluefish taken. Several cobia were caught from boats south of the inlet near the boiler.

Headboats fishing in the inlet caught croaker and small bottom fish. Triggerfish were taken outside the inlet.

Offshore charters northeast of Oregon Inlet reported fair catches of dolphin. More than 42 billfish were released, including four white marlin by the Tarheel.

Blue water fishing off Hatteras was slow, with only a few dolphin, wahoo and tuna taken. Some billfish were seen but none was landed.

The water temperature was 76.5 degrees Tuesday at the Army Corps of Engineers Pier in Duck, and 81 degrees at Frisco Pier on Hatteras Island. by CNB
