COMMUNITY-ISSUES DISCUSSIONS

I read with great interest the Aug. 18 commentary by staff writer Tony Wharton regarding the ``other'' convention in which he outlined quite well discussions of community issues by the National Issues Forum.

It is my belief that our country will be turned in a new direction only when rank-and-file citizens make their feelings and desires known. The National Issues Forum format accomplishes this goal.

As you may be aware, this format thrives in Hampton Roads. The Community Networking Association has presented community-discussion programs on health care, the economy and education with outstanding results. Another program on ``jobs'' is planned for the near future. The final report of the ``education'' program is still available from the CNA.

The CNA is a nonprofit organization with all volunteers, and volunteers are needed. Contact CNA at P.O. Box 62078, Virginia Beach 23466, or by telephone, 495-8003.
