NO TITLES LOCKED UP YET AT LANGLEY

With four races left in the Langley Speedway season, no driver in any division has an insurmountable lead, or one approaching it.

Late Model leader Mike Buffkin holds a tenuous two-point edge over Greg Edwards, the hottest driver on the track, 802-800. Jody McCormick has 728 points and Roger Sawyer is fourth with 704 points.

Grand Stock leader John Hicks has a 28-point margin over his nearest competitor, Jimmy Kenney, but Trevor Falls and Rhett Bussler are both within 70 points of Hicks.

The Mini Stock is essentially down to two drivers. Joe Lupton has a 738-710 lead over Glenn Smith II. Oddly enough, the two have combined to win only four races, two less than Kevin Harrison, who won the six races he ran.

Paul Lubno and Jerry Scott have been dueling in Limited Stock all season, winning 15 of the 18 events. Lubno is leading Scott by 12 points, though Scott holds a 9-6 advantage in races won. The nine wins makes Scott the winningest driver in any Langley division. Kelly Carson is 46 points back of Lubno.

And in Pure Stock, Sam Zoellner is six points ahead of Woody Vance. Zoellner has four wins, compared to Vances' two.

AT SOUTHAMPTON: Last Saturday's program was postponed due to the same line of early-evening thunderstorms which knocked the Langley races back one day. The schedule is now set to run Sept. 14. . . . The postponement also means that Tony Edwards' return to the Capron track will be delayed by two weeks. He still has to sit out one more race, and Southampton will not run a program Sept. 7 because of the NASCAR races in Richmond that weekend. . . . Speaking of Richmond, the Sadler Chevrolet/Slip-In Food Marts/ Southampton Speedway pace truck will be in the parade lap before Saturday night's Miller 400. . . . Southampton will host the 1996 East Coast Clash 250 Oct. 11-13.

AT DIXIELAND: Three of the five races run on last Friday's Dixieland Speedway program were won by drivers from South Hampton Roads. Chesapeake drivers swept the two headline races last Friday night at the Elizabeth City track. Bobby Webb won the Budweiser All-Stars event, while Troy Williams rode to victory lane in the Biggs Pontiac Mini Stock race. Portsmouth's Dan Koreniowski won the B Bombers race. Other local drivers to finish in the top five at Dixieland: Dean Spruill (Chesapeake, fifth in All-Stars); Chris Denham (Norfolk, fifth in Mini Stock); Mark Wilson (Chesapeake, third in Pro Bombers); Wayne Twilford (Virginia Beach, fourth in Pro Bombers); Sam Haden (Chesapeake, fifth in Pro Bombers); Buddy Brown (Portsmouth, second in B-Bombers); Danny Powell (Chesapeake, third in B-Bombers); John Graziadel (Virginia Beach, fifth in B-Bombers); Chuck Ewell (Virginia Beach, fifth C-Bombers).
