A 10-year-old boy was badly burned on his hands and face while playing in the woods with friends Thursday evening, police and fire officials said.
Joshua ``Joseph'' LaFontaine of the 5000 block of Bay Circle in northern Suffolk was in serious but stable condition in the burn unit of Sentara Norfolk General Hospital Friday afternoon, a hospital spokeswoman said.
He and several other juveniles were apparently playing with matches in the woods near his home about 6 p.m., said Assistant Fire Marshal A.G. Barrett. Investigators also found ``fire bombs,'' glass bottles filled with gasoline, nearby.
After initial treatment by Bennett's Creek Rescue Squad, the child was flown by Sentara Nightingale helicopter ambulance to Norfolk.
