The budget director for the city's public schools said Friday that he has accepted a job as executive director of finance and administration for the Williamsburg/James City County school system.
Forrest R. ``Hap'' White, who served 10 years as budget director in Norfolk, said he will start Sept.16 in the new position, overseeing finances, maintenance, transportation, food services, construction and data processing for the 9,000-student system.
``It's a fast-growing school system and it's a real opportunity for me to branch out careerwise,'' White, 48, said. ``It was a really good fit.''
During his years in Norfolk, White helped shape several of the city school system's key initiatives, including its alternative school programs and its early childhood program for 3- and 4-year-olds. The preschool program served as a model for the Virginia General Assembly's statewide 4-year-old program launched last year. by CNB
