On Friday, the central administration named retired principal Emilie M. Tilley as interim principal of Green Run High School.
The administration plans to hire a permanent replacement by late September.
The first day of school for city students is Tuesday.
Tilley, a 33-year district veteran, is a former Cox High School principal and Green Run High assistant principal.
She retired about three years ago through the district's Early Retirement Incentive Program, which calls for district retirees to work a certain number of days annually for a pre-determined number of years.
Earlier this month, the district named former Ocean Lakes High Assistant Principal Walter Taylor Jr. as Green Run High's principal. Taylor resigned and is now principal of Portsmouth's I.C. Norcom High.
He had been tapped to replace Donald E. Stowers, who was moved from Green Run High to First Colonial High School.
Stowers had replaced Stephan Charton, who left the district. by CNB
